The Final Destination is the fourth film in the Final Destination series that began way back in 2000. Over the last 10 years the films have built up a fan base of cinema goers looking forward to some cartoon style decapitations and other gruesome ends. The actual story in each one is identical with a group of friends narrowly avoiding a fatal accident after one of them experiences a premonition of the event. Then throughout the course of the movie death comes back for them in the order that they should have originally met their demise with the overall message that when the time comes you can't cheat death no matter how far you run or hide.

This latest incarnation is no different from those that came before it although it is with some relief they made the characters slightly more likeable than before. I always found the characters in FD to be loud, crass and thoroughly annoying usually banging on about how much 'pussy' they get but this time it's toned down a little. What is not toned down however is the gore and it comes in bucket loads. Each death is given a huge amount of blood, innards and exposed bone to satisfy the screaming audience and as it's in 3D it is literally thrown in your face. Yells and screams were followed by fits of laughter from the audience as they were first hid behind their hands as they knew something nasty was coming then a release as the 'Itchy & Scratchy' style death scene played out in all it's gruesome over the top glory. As you may have noticed I've not reviewed the actual story yet and that's because we already know the story. It doesn't differ from any of the previous entries in the series almost word for word. Each iteration being like a remake of the one before. Through the addition of 3D however the makers have managed to refresh the idea and it works if you are in the mood for an audience participation movie. Great fun if a little short running at 1 hour 22 minutes it's one of the shortest movies I've seen in a while.
